Short Facts Customer

SSM Schärer Schweiter Mettler AG, a leading company in the textile machinery industry, was faced with the challenge of modernizing and standardizing IT at its sites in Switzerland, Italy and China. The following three short facts summarize the key results:

  1. Global IT standardization: the introduction of the Managed Workplace Service (MWS Giga) enabled a standardized IT landscape across all locations, efficiently integrating local requirements and geographically dispersed employees.
  2. Increased security & efficiency: Managed Endpoint Protection and a centrally managed firewall infrastructure significantly improved IT security, while Azure AD integration and a VPN solution ensured secure and user-friendly access.
  3. Cost reduction & productivity: The standardization of working environments significantly reduced operating costs, relieved the burden on internal IT and enabled a stronger focus on strategic initiatives and process improvements.

Initial situation

SSM Schärer Schweiter Mettler AG, a subsidiary of the Rieter Group specializing in textile machinery and systems for yarn processing, was facing a variety of challenges. They had limited resources in their IT department to efficiently and securely manage their sites in Switzerland, Italy and China. They needed to provide the required knowledge for various IT areas, such as IT security, change management, business apps and the existing network environment. The major challenge was also to integrate software and IT tools from different generations and to serve a user base with a wide variety of IT requirements. Another special feature was the integration of all central IT structures at the site in China. The cooperation with Dinotronic and the associated safeguarding of the individual departments was therefore a logical step.

Approach / solution

The complex task of SSM Schärer Schweiter Mettler AG was tackled by Dinotronic AG with a comprehensive solution approach. This included modern technologies, integration of all specialist applications and close cooperation with local user representatives. The core of the solution was the introduction of MWS Giga, an innovative digital workplace that aims to enable a standardized IT landscape while improving security and still ensuring the necessary individual freedom for selected technical user profiles.

The project began with the implementation of the Managed Endpoint Protection Service to quickly improve IT security. Subsequently, the Managed Workplace Service was gradually provided to SSM employees as a new digital workplace. One focus was on supporting and training end users. With the new standard, the client environment was first converted in Switzerland, then globally, and since then has been centrally managed and regularly updated. This has gradually and sustainably relieved the burden on internal resources.

Globally distributed service technician profiles have also been elegantly integrated into this workplace concept with minimal disruption. This ensures that even geographically remote employees benefit from the same security, efficiency, standards and solutions.

The centrally managed firewall infrastructure and 24/7 support (for China from Vietnam) relieves the burden on the customer and ensures seamless IT security. The new client VPN solution integrated with Azure AD also enables very user-friendly and extremely secure authentication.

Result

The implementation of the solution by Dinotronic led to a number of significant improvements in the IT infrastructure and workflows at SSM. A key result was the creation of a uniform, standardized environment that is always kept up to date. This not only helped to simplify IT management processes, but also increased security through the implementation of active monitoring mechanisms and regular employee training.

The transformation of working methods and the pursuit of digitalization and process improvement have had a lasting impact on the corporate culture. Employees saved a lot of time when procuring and changing devices, which increased their productivity and mobility. In addition, the standardization of working environments supported adherence to corporate governance and compliance requirements.

One particularly notable result was the significant reduction in operating costs. These savings allowed the company to focus more on value-adding activities, such as improving internal processes and maintaining the ERP system.

Overall, the collaboration with Dinotronic is changing the IT landscape at SSM for the long term. It makes the company more secure, more mobile and more efficient. At the same time, routine internal IT tasks are reduced, allowing the team to focus on strategic initiatives.
